Chi-Yao Hong-Week 01, Homework

My name is Chi-Yao Hong, and my art concentration is traditional animator. The two artists that influences me the most are Takeshi Obata and Shouko Ikeda. They influence me how I want to draw character. My first top choice is to become an animator in Kyoto Animation. I want to observe and learn their way of producing shows because Kyoto Animation produces animations almost without freelancers' and other studios' help, and that is uncommon in Japan. My second top choice is to work in BONES as an animator. I really love their action scenes, and I wish I could directly learn from those wonderful animators. From this class, I want to become better at developing concept art, so I could develop my own world for my own shows. I also want to become good at painting; therefore, I would have a better idea on the overall impression of a cut in animation. In addition, I wish I could animate with paintings not line drawings.

Mike Trujillo- Week 01, Homework

I am Mike Trujillo, an animation major.
The two artists that most influence my work are Gerald Scarfe and John Kricfalusi.
One company I would love to work for is Cartoon Network as a storyboard artist. I really enjoy the creative freedom and experimentation that CN seems to give its creators, letting them tell the stories that they want to tell.
Another company I would like to work for is Laika as a storyboard or a concept artist. I love the stories being told at the company, as well as the amount of visual experimentation done in their films and music videos.
I hope to gain a deeper understanding of composition, lighting and visual storytelling from this class. I want my drawings to have clearer compositions while also becoming more grounded and realistic.

Brittany Campbell- Week 01, Homework

My name is Brittany Campbell and I am an animation major.
The two most influential artists that inspire my work are my dad, Brooks Campbell and Mary Blair.
My two top studio choices to work at are Laika or Pixar as a background, prop or character concept artist. I would like to work for Laika because they inspire me with their use of stop motion animation along with their quirky, grungy style. I would also like to work for Pixar because of their engaging stories and fun, dynamic characters.
I hope to achieve a more finished look to my work by the end of this class. I want to create a more realistic look to my style, incorporating a sense of light and texture.
