Alex Nguyen - Week 01 - Homework
Hello I'm Alex Nguyen. I'm a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Entertainment Arts/Animation student. The artists that used to inspire me are Hyung-Tae Kim and Kimihiko Fujisaka. Besides developing my own style, I would like to learn from Hai Phan, Frank Tseng, Yoji Shinkawa and Cory Loftis. My top two choices to work at would be Blizzard Entertainment and Laika Studios as a character or prop modeler or concept artist. I want to work for Blizzard because of their rich library of franchises that could be iterated upon. I really appreciate Laika studio's diverse and artistically focused films.
I want to level up and gain experience doing background illustrations and designs. I also want to learn more about color theory and composition so I can create cohesive illustrations.
Angela Zhang - Week - 01, Homework
Hi my name is Angela Zhang. My art concentration is Animation. The two artists who inspire my work are Robert Vally and Gyimah Gariba. I want to be a character designer for Steambot Studios, but I am also interested in pitching a TV show to Frederator. I like the work that Steambot Studios did for "Urbance" regarding their unique storytelling and interesting character designs and I like how goofy Frederator can be. For this class I want to develop ideas for stories and work on character designs.
Michelle Rincon- Week 1, Homework
Hi! My name is Michelle Rincon. I'm majoring in Entertainment Art, although I'm concentrating on Storyboarding. I am constantly inspired by artists that I find left and right, but currently I am in awe of the works of Alex Hirsch and Vera Brosgol. I look towards their character development--the lines of actions that make them, as well as their facial expressions, and colors.
As of now, I aspire to work for animation companies such as Disney Television Animation and Titmouse, Inc. to create fun and funny cartoons that make people laugh. I admire both companies for their level of dedication to create shows like Gravity Falls (Disney) and The Venture Brothers (Titmouse, Inc.) which have developed amazing stories on top of being consistently hilarious--doing storyboarding for both companies, or even something like character design, would be awesome. Although I'm also beginning to think about working for a company that makes animated films.
I would like to more than anything learn to create a wide array of atmospheres in which to incorporate my characters, as it is something I've always struggled with and never quite got a handle on. I also need a ton of work on color theory!
Lidia Garcia- Week 01, Homework 01
Lidia Garcia
- I am working towards the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Entertainment Arts/Animation.
- The two most inspiring artist that influence my work are the wonderful artists Mingjue Helen Chen and Clio Chiang.
- My top two choices to work at would be Pixar and Cartoon Network as a story artist or character designer. Aside from being raised by their films and television shows, I find these two companies creating fun, unique, heartfelt and exciting content.
- I would like to gain more knowledge and experience doing background illustration and design as well as color theory. I would like to learn how to integrate character with its environment.
Natalie May- Week 01, Homework
Hi everyone! My name is Natalie May and my focus is illustration. A few artist who inspire me include Mucha, Lois van Baarie, and Vance Kovacs. Top choices to work at would be Blizzard or Marvel in character design and concept. These companies produced unbelievable projects and I want to be about of something like that. I am super excited for this class and want to strengthen my skills and learn some new techniques.
Kelsey Suan - Week 01, Homework
Hi my name is Kelsey Suan and I am an Illustration major. Currently the two artists that inspire my work are Jennifer Ely and Sergey Kolesov. The two studios I would love to work at as a visual development artist would be Laika and Pixar. I prefer Laika studios because what they produce is highly creative and artistically focused, while I like Pixar because of its creative culture and overall success. What I would like to get out of this class is stronger digital artwork and narrative work. I would also like to explore more styles.
Charles Chi- Week 1, Homework
Hey everyone, my name's Charles Chi and I'm majoring in Animation and Entertainment Design. Two of my favorite artists are Dave Guertin and Greg Baldwin. I love how much they can push shapes and expressions to create some truly amazing characters and creatures. I also like Cheeks aka Sean Galloway because of how simple his characters can get while still creating creating visual interest.
My dream job would be working at Pixar and Sony Pictures Animation as a character modeler. Some of my favorite movies have come from these companies and I think they make entertaining movies and beautiful worlds.
I really want to be pushed in this class to improve my skills and to also learn more about color and design. I especially want to improve my character designing skills.
Leon Cruz - Week 01, Homework
Leon Cruz
Animation & Entertainment
My Inspirations are H.R. Giger & Boris Vallejo
My first choice for a company I would like to work at would be Rockstar Games as a 3-D Character Rigger / Modeler, because the games they make are very entertaining.
My second choice would be to work for Disney as a Character Rigger/ Modeler for Films. Disney is the Mafia of entertainment, plus they own MARVEL and Star Wars.
I would like to refine my digital drawing skills and sharpen my abilities to conceptualize ideas.
Edwin Escobar - Week 01, Homework
My name is Edwin Escobar, and my concentration is Illustration. If I narrowed down the list of inspirational artist who current influence me, then I would have to say Andrea Sorrentino, and Monet are in the top two. The two studios/companies I have my eye on are Marvel Studios and Image. At Marvel I want to be involved in costume design or storyboards. I'm not much of a Marvel comics guy, but I love their film aesthetic. At Image, I want to start my own comic book series, and work that deal into a TV show. I just want something to call my own, be successful at it, and control where the story goes (with established comics, there's only so much one can take the characters without editorial interference).
Keeping it simple, I just want to learn. My visdev skills aren't the greatest, so that's currently a big hindrance for future job prospects. Can't make money being sub-par.
Allison Blanding- Week 01, Homework
I want to work for Disney as a creative, and myself. I look up to Pascal Campion, because of his versatility, and willingness to explore and experiment with new tools and styles.
My name is Allison Kathleen Blanding, and my art concentration is in illustration. The artwork of Mary Blair has inspired and influenced my work throughout my life (though I make no attempts to imitate her style). It is her technique in story telling, and her masterful use of color that has encouraged my own style to develop. Additionally, the artwork of Pascal Campion inspires in a similar way, but with the addition of his lighting techniques and energetic yet simplified shapes.
In addition to working for myself as a freelance illustrator, I have always been drawn to the inspirational sketch artists (concept/creative artists) of Disney Studios, and by relation Pixar Studios. I admire the importance they put on storytelling, their willingness to incorporate various styles to support the story elements, and their want to innovate.
I intend to expand my expertise of storytelling through illustration with this class, and strengthen my artistic skill sets to do so.
Megan LeMasurier - Week 01, Homework
Hello, my name is Megan LeMasurier. I am currently studying Illustration. I draw my artistic inspirations from Wilhelm de Kooning and Maurice Noble. The top two companies that I would like to work for are Disney Animation Studios and Laika Animation Studio as an Art Director or Production Manager. I want to work at Disney because it has a vast history of producing quality work that I have admired for years. Additionally, being a fortune 500 company, Disney seems to treat their workers well compared to other animation studios. On the other hand, I want to work at Laika for the adventure of moving to Portland and to work in stop motion animation. I want to be an art director or a production manager because I enjoy leading a team in creative endeavors. I am taking this class to learn more about digital painting in Photoshop and to improve my understanding of composition and color.
Matthew Cartwright- Week 01, Homework
Hi! My name is Matthew Cartwright and I am getting my BFA in Illustration. The two biggest influences on my work right now are Sparth and Eytan Zana. I want to work in concept art for video games and movies, either as an environmental artist or prop designer. The top two companies I would like to work at would be Bungie and 343 Industries (Its not cheating, they are different!). I'd like to work for either of those companies because there games that they produce are science-fiction lore filled worlds that are visually stunning and filled with awesome concepts. I hope that I improve in this class as much as a I did last semester.
Chelsea Jauregui-Week 01, Homework
Hello, my name is Chelsea and I am now an illustration major, after making the switch from the animation concentration this past May. Two of my most inspirational artists are Joey Chou, for his use of flat shapes and superb color selection, and J. Scott Campbell for his ability to stylize human faces while keeping the features believably realistic. The two studios that I would love to work at are Nickelodeon and Disney. During my internship at Nickelodeon this past fall, I experienced the friendly and warm environment at the studio, and I could tell that the company truly takes care of its employees and in my mind that set it apart from other studios. I would love to work for Disney TV or Disney Feature Animation because I love the devotion to beautiful story lines that that studio consistently demonstrates. I would like to enter the industry as a production assistant so I can gain a broader understanding of the different roles, and then transition into a position as a color stylist. I am looking forward to gain experience as a digital painter, and improve my drawing skills through observational drawings. It's going to be a challenge but I am ready to improve through this rigorous class!
Paul Barral- Week 01, Homework
Hello, my name is Paul Barral and I am an entertainment/animation major.
The two artists that have the most influence on my artwork are Glenn Keane and Rad Sechrist.
My top two companies I would want to work for are Disney TV and Cartoon Network as an action storyboard artist. In actuality, it is more about the projects and teams of people I would love to work with. For cartoon network, I would enjoy working on shows like Regular show for its outrageous humor and insane action sequences. For Disney, Gravity Falls would be my ideal team to work with because the show has an engaging world with a rich cast of characters that I love dearly.
During the course of this class, I want to develop a consistent workflow that suits me best. While i have been able to reach my destination in my digital paintings in the past, I always felt like my process was never consistent. My goal is to solidify my process that is unique to how I draw and paint my compositions.
Christine Le - Week 01, Homework
Hello everyone! I'm Christine and I am a writer and visual storyteller. More specifically I am an Animation/Entertainment Arts major with a minor in TV/Film Screenwriting at CalState Fullerton, but that is a long-winded title to tell people. There are a ton of artists that influence my work, but the two that I most admire would probably have to be Chris Sanders and Pascal Campion. Not only for their artistic styles but for the amazing sense of storytelling in their work.
As for my career goals, I hope to eventually acquire a showrunner position for a major studio, so that I can combine my love of writing stories along with visually developing them. Ideal studio candidates include; Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, NBC, Disney, Netflix, or Frederator. In working towards that goal, I hope to find a place in the writers' room of a sitcom or comedy related series, animated or live action. Ideally, I would hope to work in the animation field as part of a writing/ development team, then work my way up to successfully pitching my own series. And following that, of course, celebrating with pizza.
I chose to sign up for this class because I want to further develop my skill in creating a world of characters and environments that become believable to an audience. I want to be able to take story concepts from my mind and be able to transfer them into a "physical" format that can convey the narratives I am trying to tell. On a more substantial level, I want to focus on developing my skill in composition, color, and lighting.
Robert Ramirez- Week 01, Homework
My name is Robert Ramirez and I am an animation major. The two biggest influences to my work would be Tim Burton and Clayton Crain. Tim Burton has been a huge inspiration to me since I was a small child with his dark yet charming themes to his films and artwork. Clayton Crain is my biggest inspiration in digital media because the forms and poses he gives to his characters allows them to be more dramatic and surreal. The top two studios I would like to work at would be Titmouse and Encirco Studios as a pencil/base animator. Titmouse is known for making 2D animated series that combine adult humor and brutal action sequences, and I am all about adult humor and violence. Encirco Studios is a place that I get hired to do a lot of freelance work in background painting, murals, character design, and 2D animation. In this class, I hope to have a better understanding of the tools and techniques used in photoshop to make realistic characters and backgrounds.
Ari Castleton- Week 01, Homework
My name is Ari Castleton and I am an Entertainment Arts/Animation concentration.
The two most inspiring artists that influence my work are Bill Watterson and Genndy Tartakovsky. The top two studios I want to work for are Pixar and Cartoon Network, working in the storyboard department. Pixar has always been a large influence in my art career and the way they tell a story is beyond compare. I want to be apart of that process and help develop the look and feel of those stories. Having seen some behind the scenes of Cartoon Network and storyboard samples from their current shows, I really enjoy their styles and sense of humor. Disney is another company I am interested in, especially some of their recent animated television shows. From this class, I want to develop a better sense of composition, color, and perspective. I do not have a lot of experience with background design and better understanding what makes a good background will ultimately better develop a story or project.
Philip Dimitriadis- Week 1, Homework
My name is Philip Dimitriadis and I must say..I hate self portraits!! I 'm a graduate student focusing on my MFA in Entertainment Art Illustration. I graduated from CSUF with an undergraduate degree and have worked professionally for 15 years, and was recently offered a full-time job heading up the Digital Art Program at Fullerton College. I decided to return to school to focus on creating and strenthening a new portfolio for Visual Development. A couple of my favorite artists and inspirations include: Michael Spooner, Craig Mullins, Feng Zhu, and all of the American Illustrators. I want to focus on light and color while developing more story driven conceptual art. Outside of teaching full-time I have 4 months off to freelance on animation & entertainment productions.
Stephanie Burtner- Week 01, Homework
Hi! My name is
Stephanie Burtner. My art concentration
is illustration. One of the artists that influenced my work was Mary
Blair. I actually had an assignment to
make an original illustration in Mary Blair’s style, and since then, a lot of
her style has carried into and inspired mine. Another artist that is currently influencing my work is Herb
Ryman. My two top choices are actually for the same company, but at different divisions. I would love to be a Blue Sky artist/Concept Designer at
Walt Disney Imagineering, which designs Disney Theme Parks, Resorts and Cruise
Lines. I’m a huge Disney fan. The second choice is Visual Development Artist at
Disney (Feature) Animation Studios.
Again, I love Disney. I want to get better at illustration, and continue to
develop my skills and portfolio. I’m
hoping to create pieces for my animation visual development portfolio in this
class.
Riana Dorsey- Week 01, Homework
Hello everyone! My name is Riana Dorsey, and I'm in the B.F.A. Illustration concentration. I'm both influenced and inspired by Osamu Tezuka and Hiroshi Yoshida. Career-wise, I'm interested in self-publishing my graphic novels and I would also like to work for a television animation studio (Nickelodeon as a first choice because of their new in-house mentor-ship program) as a color stylist or something similar. In this class, I want to get better at drawing backgrounds for my graphic novels, learn about visual development as a career, and build a professional portfolio for internships and/or jobs in the entertainment business.
